We all know men love to prove how masculine they are. And what better way than to break flying ceramic disks with hundreds of tiny mental ball bearings?
That’s right. I’m talking clay pigeon shooting (sometimes known as clay target shooting). Perfect for the guy who wants a fun few hours testing his skill and accuracy in a beautiful countryside environment. It’s also great to go in small groups or three or four. You may not get as many shots but you do get the thrill of competing against your friends.
When you choose a shooting school keep the following things in mind.
- How good is tuition? The nature of the sport makes it compulsory that you are accompanied by an instructor at all times. This shooting instructor can make the difference between and enjoyable session and a frustrating one. With proper instruction even a first timer should be able to hit a fair few clays and have lots of fun.
- What will it cost? Lessons vary in price depending whether you are having an individual tuition or are part of a group. If your group is two people or fewer, expect a one hour lesson to cost around £70 each. If there are three or more of you most clay shooting schools will give you a two hour session for around the same price each. On top of the tuition and gun hire, you will also have to pay for any cartridges you use. Expect an additional £10 – £20 per person for these.
- How many stands does the shooting school have? Shooting schools vary in size from a handful of beginner traps to acres of land with more challenging traps to represent every conceivable type of bird (and rabbit!) you would find on a real shoot. You will only get to shoot at a handful of the stands during a session, but a larger school will give you more choice.
Personally I have been to three different shooting schools and had a fun filled time at all of them. Sports shooting really does make a brilliant romantic gift or experience day that your man (and even you!) is bound to enjoy.
